Universal Appeal of Concrete Landscape Edging
Concrete landscape edging is used to define paths edges, flower bed borders,
and for foliage control. It also provides functional beauty to a landscape.
Concrete landscape edging is mostly used along driveways to prevent foliage, gravel, and soil to wash over it, especially when
there is heavy rain. In the garden, it is used to define and enhance garden paths, retain gravel and soil in garden beds, and to successfully
evacuate rain water without draining away the soil. When used along asphalt, it prevents the asphalt from eroding. The sloping border of concrete
landscape edging further prevents soil and mulch from washing over the delineated area, and is especially convenient along slopes.
Concrete landscape can be used both for residential and commercial purposes. Its appeal is further enhanced since this edging
can follow any curves, lines, and designs of landscaping. When it is laid straight and level, it can also be used as a guide for pavers.
Available in a wide variety of designs, styles, and colors, concrete landscape edging can fit any requirement of landscaping
structure. Styles are available as stamped borders with edge designs, or in classic styles like single brick, double brick, basket weave, and so
on. In some cases, it can even be custom colored. Some constructors mix the color in the concrete itself before it is laid, thus providing
uniformity of tone in the whole product. Others apply shading to plain concrete edging, and finish it with a sealer. Use of contrasting colors
can further create impact and visual effect.
Once installed, there is no need to replace concrete landscape edging. With proper care, it can last indefinitely. It is also
reliable since cracking control joints are inserted at every 12-18 inches along the edging to allow for movement. Installation is usually a 1-day
process.
Another advantage of concrete edging is that it allows mowing around, which saves time spent on weeding around landscaped
areas. Such edging an also be fitted in some cases with edge lighting using low voltage to make it visible at night also.
